Saudi Arabia does not back any name for the Lebanese presidency and is reluctant to interfere in favour of any name, as the Kingdom stands at an equal distance from everybody, said the Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Bukhari.
Bukhari stressed the need to implement the Taif Agreement that protects the Lebanese.
Ambassador Bukhari reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for the Lebanese state, institutions, and people.
Saudi Arabia “is exerting permanent and continuous efforts in the quintet committee, and it is presenting the ideas and proposals that contribute to saving Lebanon,” the diplomat stated.
Bukhari indicated that electing a new president for Lebanon is in fact the role of Members of Parliament, and the Kingdom only suggests criteria and qualifications, expressing hope that a new president is elected as soon as possible.
