Dear friends,
Council’s Australia Day Awards nominations are now open.
And what better way to recognise those who go out of their way for others than by nominating them in Council’s Australia Day Awards.
I encourage everyone to think about that special person or group who have made a real difference in the community and put their names forward.
These awards will be my first as Mayor, and extra special, because I know through my volunteering work, how many deserving people we have in our City. People from all walks of life who do what they do out of a commitment to help others and out of love.
We all know that a little recognition can go a long way, and these selfless local heroes deserve our gratitude and thanks in our Australia Day honours list.
There are six categories – Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Organisation of the Year and the Jack Mundey Environment and Heritage Award.
And this year, we’ve included an additional category for Women in the Community, to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of women across our City.

I look forward to meeting all the recipients and hearing their stories.
Warm regards,
Clr Bilal El-Hayek
