Getting to the beach has never been breezier with City of Canterbury Bankstown’s free Bus to Beach program.
It’s time to pack your swimsuits, your towels and your sunscreen and get on board the free bus service to Cronulla beach on Thursday 11 and 18 January.
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said the buses will take the hassle out of getting the family to the beach this January.
“It can be time consuming and expensive and the buses offer an ideal alternative for struggling families,” Mayor El-Hayek said.
“The cost of petrol and finding a parking spot close to the beach are often a deterrent for families with kids.”
The buses will run on four different routes, with multiple pick-up locations across Canterbury-Bankstown. The buses will depart at:
- 9am from Roundabout Youth Centre, Panania Railway Station, Belmore Youth Resource Centre and Ashbury Senior Citizens’ Centre;
- 9.15am from Greenacre Community Centre, Revesby Railway Station, Riverwood Community Centre and Council’s customer car park at Campsie; and
- 9.30am from Padstow Railway Station and 69 The Mall, Bankstown.
Mayor El-Hayek, a father of four who is passionate about water safety, urged those families going to the beach to swim between the flags.
“Tragedy can strike in a matter of seconds and keeping yourself safe and not endangering the lives of others is important.”
Mayor El-Hayek said he championed the efforts of our lifesavers and the work they do in protecting the community.
“I encourage all parents to enrol their children in our CBSwim School or sign them up for our five-day intensive Learn To Swim program these school holidays.”
The Bus to Beach program operates on a first come, first served basis and residents do not have to register.
