Australian Parliament House Open Day – Sunday 8 October

Parliament House is the heart of Australian democracy, and this year marks its 35th anniversary. To celebrate this milestone, Parliament House is having an Open Day on Sunday 8 October – and everyone’s invited!

The Open Day is a free day of family-friendly activities, pop up talks, hands-on activities, and a host of great performances. There is something for all ages to enjoy with live music, food demonstrations, displays, arts-and-craft activities, and lots more.

The pop-up talks will cover a wide range of topics from the inspiring journeys of women in parliament, to the Parliament House beehives and the honey made on site at Parliament House.

Visitors on Open Day will get the rare chance to walk the paths our elected officials take and step onto the floor of the House of Representatives and Senate chambers.

Flying high above Parliament House seven days a week, 24 hours a day, is one of Canberra’s most recognisable landmarks – the Australian National Flag and flag mast. On Open Day visitors can witness the changing of the giant Australian National Flag, while taking in the sweeping views of Canberra.

Open Day will also see a special aerobatic display from the Royal Australian Air Force Roulettes. See the six aircraft perform impressive manoeuvres above the Parliamentary precinct.
