Ironbark Gallery Exhibits NAIDOC Week with Walangari Karntawarra

Strathfield Council is excited to announce the Ironbark Gallery’s upcoming exhibition NAIDOC Week with Walangari Karntawarra which will be open to members of the public from 27 June – 27 August 2023.

Aboriginal artist, elder, educator and performer Walangari Karntawarra is set to mark NAIDOC Week with the launch of a new exhibition titled ‘NAIDOC Week with Walangari Karntawarra.

Walangari’s artwork looks at his Dreamtime stories, also known as Jukurrpa in his language. His paintings focus on the following Jukurrpa: Snake, Honey Ant, Witchery Grub, Centipede, Caterpillar, Water, Fire, Emu, and Kangaroo, all of which he has inherited, or its living custodian has given him permission to paint it.

Join artist Walangari Karntawarra for the official opening of his exhibition at the Ironbark Gallery on Tuesday 4 July 2023, alongside guest speaker Robyn Ross, a portrait artist. There will be a Smoking ceremony and performance by Walangari Karntawarra & Diramu Aboriginal Dance and Didgeridoo.

The exhibition runs from 27 June to 27 August 2023 at the Ironbark Gallery located within the Strathfield Council Library & Innovation Hub, 65 – 67 Rochester Street, Homebush.
